Let's go to the dog park!

Dogs are a huge part of our lives, and we want to give them the best life possible. Do you live in Old Metairie or the surrounding areas with a four-legged friend who needs a place to run around? Maybe you have a huge yard, but your pup could use some friends. Maybe even you could use some friends who also loves dogs! Let’s go to the dog park, Old Metairie, Pontiff Dog Park that is!

Pontiff Park’s dog park is located at 217 Fairmont Ave near Metairie Rd and the Metairie Country Club! The dog park is 25,000 square feet of fun for the pups; which includes benches for the humans and water fountains for both the humans and the pups! It is open Saturday – Thursday 8am- dusk and Friday Noon-dusk.

Even though this is an Old Metairie hotspot for your pups, there are some rules that Pontiff asks that you follow. Those rules are as followed:

– Always maintain control of your dog
– Always close gate upon entry/exit
– Leash dogs before exit and when outside dog park
– Maximum of 3 dogs per adult visitor
– Children 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult
– Closely supervise un-neutered male dogs
– Stay in view and voice control of pets
– Stay in fenced area with pet leash in hand

Not permitted:
– Children under 10
– Unattended dogs
– Puppies under 4 months
– Female dogs in heat
– Sick dogs
– Spiked or choke collars
– Dog toys
– People food
– Glass containers
– Jogging, bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, strollers, and scooters

Enough about the rules, let’s get into why Cooper (dog pictured above) LOVES this Old Metairie Dog park so much. Firstly, he loves that even after it rains there are non muddy spots to run around and have fun, although he loves the muddy parts as well. Secondly, the dog park is large enough that if he wants to just stroll around and sniff by himself for a little while, he can without being bothered. Thirdly, everyone is always respectful at the Pontiff Dog Park, so his human never has to worry about stepping in another pups potty. Last but not least, he gets to make new friends of all shapes and sizes that are always so nice to him! Being a little guy isn’t always easy, but Cooper never feels out of place at this Old Metairie dog park!
