Why is New Orleans Mardi Gras such a big deal?

Waking up in New Orleans during Mardi Gras is a feeling that not many can describe and not many can understand. Your head may hurt a little and hands a little sore from catching the krewe’s beads, but you wake up ready to do it all again each day. Although, Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras Parades start weeks before Mardi Gras Day. These nearly 100 parades are across the New Orleans Metro area starting on Kings Day on January 6th and this year go through Mardi Gras day on February 21st.

Burk Brokerage Owner and Broker, GiGi Burk, says; “I always find it amazing how much the citizens of New Orleans spend on Mardi Gras to make our city shine and others smile!” Whether you are Uptown, in the French Quarter, Mid City, or the Marigny you are sure to make a new group of friends! You can’t help but smile and have a good time when you are enriched in the culture and atmosphere.

Bourbon Street is always a tourist staple, but make sure to venture out because none of the major parades roll down Bourbon St.! Other popular New Orleans streets like St. Charles Ave and Canal St do host some parades, but make sure to check a parade schedule and route before picking a spot for the day!

We hope everyone has a safe and happy Mardi Gras and if you have any New Orleans Real Estate questions, call us at 504-488-8600.
